OBX Jeep Invasion 2025 | Alligator River Wildlife Refuge Trail

Jeeps navigating a dirt trail through coastal North Carolina pine trees, with water in the distance.

OBX Jeep Invasion Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge Guided Trail Ride

The Alligator River Trail Ride is one of the most unique experiences of the OBX Jeep Invasion weekend… and an incredible experience in the unique coastal Carolina and barrier islands ecosystem. We encourage all to explore the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge, as well as Pea Island and Pocosin Lakes refuges, and the Coastal North Carolina National Wildlife Refuges Gateway Visitor Center. Please tread lightly, pack out waste, follow the rules and policies, and most importantly, enjoy but respect wildlife and the refuges.

The Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge offers:

  • Scenic backroads perfect for individual or guided off-road adventure
  • A chance to spot local Outer Banks wildlife in their natural habitat
  • A unique Jeep® experience unlike any other during the OBX Jeep Invasion

Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge is located on the Albemarle Peninsula in eastern North Carolina. The refuge was established in 1984 to protect the rare pocosin wetlands and their associated wildlife. Pocosin wetlands grow on thick layers of peat and have stunted, shrubby vegetation. The refuge also protects swamp forest and is fringed with marsh. The vast protected area supports large populations of black bear, wintering waterfowl, river otter, and other wildlife species. In addition, the refuge is one of the only places in the world where you may see endangered red wolves in the wild.
